Yes, many adolescents are thriving as they grow into adulthood, but some youth today are struggling under the weight of influences and pressures that negatively affect their well-being. Your financial support of the Mental Health Intervention Program increases access and removes barriers to effective mental-health services for students at both Anacortes High School and Middle School. Through this program, an on-site mental-health therapist and a social worker are available to meet with students during the school day. When asked about the program, here is what one student had to say:
What do you like about the program?
I was going through a tough time and was struggling socially. The program has helped me a lot because I could talk to someone about what I was feeling and struggling with. I liked that I was able to talk someone when I was at school. I also liked my therapist. She was really kind.
How has the program helped you?
Meeting with my counselor has helped me to understand and cope with my struggles. Talking with her has helped me feel less depressed, confused, and anxious.
Should the community continue to fund this program?
Yes. A lot of kids have no one to turn to, and need someone they trust to talk to. I didn’t know what to do and meeting with my counselor really helped. I think cutting this program would be highly detrimental.
Thank you for ensuring trusted mental-health services are available to all students. You are making a tangible difference in the mental and emotional health of Anacortes teenagers.
